Quality and the Enviornment

Triple Crown Services Company, a leader in dry van truckload freight transportation, announced environmental initiatives In 2008 to promote and improve fuel conservation and emissions reductions.

The company’s initiatives focus on the environmental advantages of its hybrid RoadRailer® trailer technology. With the RoadRailer® system, each trailer is a unique combination of an on-the-road trailer and an over-the-rail car. Truckload freight is picked up from shippers and driven to Triple Crown terminals where the trailers are set on railroad wheels, called bogies. The assembled trains then travel to destination terminals where the trailers are reconnected to tractors and delivered.

It is a seemingly simple concept that has a very significant impact on the environment. With rail transit the major leg of the company’s long-distance routes, each train removes up to 150 trucks from U.S. roads, thereby substantially reducing emissions, fuel consumption, and traffic congestion. Triple Crown is the only provider of RoadRailer® service in the U.S. and Canada, and, at any moment, is transporting over 3,700 RoadRailers® on trains.

In a year’s time, Triple Crown removes
183,000,000 truck miles from roads utilizing much
more environmentally friendly rail transit. Additionally, Triple Crown was named a “SmartWaySM Transport Partner” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2008. SmartWaySM Transport is an innovative collaboration between the EPA and the freight sector designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant
emissions, and improve energy security.

Companies that surpass and maintain the stringent environmental conservation requirements of the program are recognized for their social responsibility and leadership. The EPA encourages shippers to specify SmartWaySM Transport Partners as primary carriers because of their environmental initiatives.
